A shift in power, and yet no changes. Surprising? I think not.

Work has been ridiculously pointless these days. I ask you, Purgatorium, what good are all these crime-fighting organizations when we don't seem to succeed at all and there is no crime to fight?

In a place as hopeless as this hell, what is there really left to do? Wouldn't every human being strive for more comfort and safety? Then why do at least 70% of this place live on the lower level, where it isn't safe and housing is nearly worthless? Is it the will for punishment? Are you punishing yourself by staying here and doing nothing?

If there is any truth to the theories about the evolution of man, where are the people who try to work for a better tomorrow? Those who fight against the odds, just so they will achieve what they yearn for?

Everyone in this place has given up hope when it is supposedly human nature to strive, strive and strive. A hand smacking you down should only make you get up once again. Isn't that how man has managed to come this far in this universe? Trying to build. Trying to invent. Regardless of all higher powers that try to force you down... is it fear? Fear of God, that stops everyone from even trying?

I once knew a man who conquered that fear... who wasn't afraid to work towards his goal. Was he really the only one in this universe to have that courage?

Or perhaps, all of this is a farce. Maybe none of you are really alive here but merely images this hell has produced for me. My own personal hell. It does sound sort of lovely, doesn't it?

Actually, that is what I expect of an organization that is supposed to keep everyone safe. Do you think a normal peacekeeping organization sits in front of terminals and waits for a reported crime? If you want to keep people safe, you are with them. You talk to them, you patrol, you ensure their safety by letting them know you are around. But I suppose that really isn't something you understand.

And that stops you from continuing to try? How many times, do you think, did it take to build the first object that could fly and carry a person? How many failed attempts at going into space did it take to finally do it? If man had stopped trying, where would be now?

Who told you evolution was supposed to be nice?

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't believe I mentioned the word "nice" in the post but do feel free to correct me should this be an oversight of mine.

Okay, let me be simple with you.

If there is any truth to the theories about the evolution of man, where are the people who try to work for a better tomorrow? Those who fight against the odds, just so they will achieve what they yearn for?

Who told you that the evolution of man is about people working together for a better tomorrow? Because I think they may have been a little misguided.

[identity profile] embracingly.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
How would you change things?

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, my idealistic wording confused you. The point of this section is that evolution has always worked by man wanting something and working towards it. If you want power, you do everything to get it. If you want to fly, you'll find some way to do it, even without wings--man invented things to substitute for wings. That is all I'm saying.

Though people here seem to lack exactly that will.

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
For one, something needs to be done about this ridiculus fear of god. Hiding behind the excuse of everything being smitten by the gods anyway is giving too many people the chance to do nothing at all. This isn't what existing is about, not even in this hell.

[identity profile] shooting-blanc.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
If it'll help break up this little quarrel- I've been spending the lion's share of my time in Celestial Being patrolling the lower city. We do what we can, but between the meisters and the treat-mitigation group, I don't think we've got a dozen bodies to deploy throughout this whole city.

In this case, it's not a matter of trying and failing to provide power and improve the lower city as a whole. it's a matter of the "management" forcefully opposing such attempts.

[identity profile] ttlymostspecial.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Oh. Okay, that makes much more sense.

I think most people here are driven either to do something about their situation-- ie, repent, grow complacent and focus only on survival, or seek something else here they didn't have in their life back at home.

As long as it doesn't directly concern them or theirs, they don't care.

In any case, to make it short.

You fail.

[identity profile] embracingly.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
People cling to excuses. How would you inspire so much courage?

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't really seen anyone try, even for their own sake. Many people have either gone completely quiet and wallowing in self-pity somewhere in the corner of their broken cottage, or they openly post about their issues that need solving while they don't actually try to solve them.

Purgatorium needs more than people crying over themselves.

[identity profile] covert-chord.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
There's only so much we can do with the manpower we have, with the power we have in general.

This situation is nothing like those. Was there a visible god telling those people that they were going to be punished if they tried, that had punished them in the past? This isn't our world. It doesn't go by the same rules.

[identity profile] shooting-blanc.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been wracking my brain on how to improve things in the lower city since I got here. But beings that can tear apart an entire infrastructure on a whim make such plans difficult.

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
So if you were in a country that had a dictator who oppresses his citizens. You would be one of those who simply let everything happen, believing that there is no chance to ever gain freedom? That is just like I imagined you to be, then. Instead of trying to animate more people to join you, to find a way to become stronger and gain power, you just let things go over your head and cry when they don't work out the way you wish they did.

Maybe talking to you really is a waste of time.

[identity profile] ttlymostspecial.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
They say they repent. But do they really? I don't know. Who are we to judge? It doesn't concern me, so I don't care. LOL.

And what will you do about it, if you're so concerned?

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
By taking the first step, perhaps. Maybe it's my nature not to fear something people believe to be "god" as I was created to fight this entity. Even if this is a different time and place with different rules--I still believe that the core of the problem is the same.

Fear and excuses will lead the population here to become completely stale and hopeless.

[identity profile] ex-regenera246.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Then why don't you do something?

[identity profile] covert-chord.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that's not what I...

Heh.

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Then there obviously needs to a group that takes care of those beings while another group works on the infrastructure. It isn't that hard. And Purgatorium has quite a number of people living here. You cannot tell me that there "aren't enough people" to work together.

[identity profile] embracingly.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Leading by example. Let's hope others would follow your example. But some will always consider fear the wisest decision.

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Try to gather people to do more than cry to themselves, obviously. Try to go against this so-called god who destroys all our attempts at creating something. If we aren't given any directions on how to repent, we might as well make this place our home, a safe one.

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That question could be directed at anyone here.

[identity profile] citrinitas-668.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Only sheep follow the masses without ever trying to break free. May I call you sheep from now on, if failure hurts your pride so much?

[identity profile] ttlymostspecial.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You're after a coup d'état?
